Do We Really Need Engaged Employees?

Yes! Expansion to a global economy has created a real-time need to understand and adapt more quickly. Engaged employees are more likely to learn, understand and adapt to trends and techniques which may take place half a world away.

In this webinar participants will learn:
• Key factors for creating a culture of high performance and engagement
• How to implement key factors for high performance and engagement
• How to identify and remove barriers that prevent engagement
• 3 Key strategies to create a lasting culture of trust and accountability – without threats or bribes

Join Wally and discover the need for engaged employees. Consider this:
• The key asset of any successful firm is the brainpower of its people
• Workers are less and less interchangeable
• Complexity of the new competitive world requires continuous information exchange

This is an hour well spent for anyone who works within a workforce that is strenuous and disengaged. Register today!

If your company is still trying to develop a strategy for social media, it’s time to stop thinking about it and start being yourself.

At the recent SES conference in San Jose, I sat in on different sessions dealing with web development, design, SEO, social media and many other topics. The underlying palatable theme of the conference was the panic over social media. Don’t get me wrong, there were many experts at the conference, but most only spoke lip service to social media and very few understood it’s long term potential. It seems that to be successful in social media we all need to relearn a few lessons in sharing, communication and friendship.

When you think about social media, you need to stop thinking about your company and start thinking about your employees, current customers and potential customers. This is your opportunity to convert your company from a cold and stale entity to an outward looking company and with a product set created for and driven by people. These people, your employees and coworkers, are just like you and me, and they look very similar to our customers and friends. This is where we build the foundation of our social media plan, because if we can get our employees to shine through via pictures, blog posts, videos and tweets we have to potential to gain friendship along with revenue. At Copper Conferencing we have had success through turning each of our employees into a guest-blogger, allowing them to highlight their skills and knowledge on our blog.

If we are going to be successful during a down market we need to remember our bicycles.

I ride my road bike to work as a means of saving money, maintaining fitness, and staying connected with a world often missed. My forward motion maintains my balance and allows me to quickly react and steer my bike. For anyone who has ridden a bike, you know that the faster you go the easier it is to move your bike, the smallest lean can provide direction. The forward motion in our business provides the same ability to react and steer with efficiency beyond our customers expectations and our competitions ability.

What are some areas where you can gain forward motion during this recession?

Customer service – Are you developing your customer service to be a shining star in your company. Is your customer service helpful, educated, proactive and a part of your companies forward motion and development? As one of the main human points of contact in your company it is important to understand what is occurring in their world and how it can be applied to business practices, marketing campaigns and resolution of pain points.

Technology – Is your company investing in techno fluff or common sense technologies? It is common for new technologies to be overlooked due to financial or time costs related to training and use. We have become accustomed to laboring through new systems for the sake of some reason unknown. But there are new technologies coming out everyday that are positively affecting productivity and cutting costs. Find motion with hosted applications like SalesForce (sales and customer tracking), Google Documents (online office suite), BaseCamp (project management), etc. Also, take time to look at your internal technologies and determine whether an investment in expanding functionality or new technology could help to differentiate you as the recession passes.

Marketing and Social Marketing – While your sales may be slacking, it is important to maintain a quality brand and image. Marketing allows you to stay in focus as consumers begin to heavily way their options and purchasing decisions. Begin to look at new marketing trends like social media and how they can be appropriately applied to your company.

Office Culture – Look at ways to boost morale, participation and commitment through developing a unique and purposeful office culture. Give your employees the opportunity to interact, brainstorm and develop new ideas within different environments and activities. An office culture can also provide an easily defined identity that helps to determine whether new hires will integrate well.

Decreased Overhead – Cutting back doesn’t mean decreasing the quality of your service and your products. But begin to honestly question the “why” of certain expenses and are these expenses affecting your ability to produce motion and direction. Coming out trimmer and fitter financially means more mobility post recession and into the future.

It seems that the old adage “it’s like riding a bike” may be applicable for both our lives and our work. But to be figurative and literal, I hope you will think of the bicycle when you consider the direction of your company during this recession and that you actually take the opportunity to ride a bicycle to work. You may be surprised by what you have been missing.

With the groundbreaking launch of Facebook and the excess of useful applications, the question is now, “what is your strategy?”

While it is easy to put aside nerdy enthusiasm over the latest and greatest technology, it’s nearly impossible to ignore the growth of one of the world’s most popular social networking sites and the impact it has on marketing a business. Just how popular is Facebook? Over 20 million people login everyday for an average of 20 minutes viewing over 54 billion pages every month. In the matter of only months, using Facebook to get your business noticed has surpassed popular strategies including search engine optimization and online marketing. With the explosion of trendy sites such as Facebook, you can find everything to market your business on one website. With the groundbreaking launch of Facebook and the excess of useful applications, the question is now, “what is your strategy?”

Personally, I am highly addicted to Facebook. I can proudly say that my number of virtual friends far outnumbers the people I actually know. This is, however, a great thing, especially in the business world. I now use this social utility and the many applications offered, to strategically take my 954 virtual friends and convert them into sales leads. Now that I have graduated from college and taken my first sales job, Facebook has an entirely new meaning: I’m taking friendship to the next level…a higher level: turning them into leads. Here is my strategy:

Expand network connections

Share your life (literally)

Customize & know your “page”

Increasing the number of friends is not hard; in fact, it’s almost too easy. Expanding your network of connections means everything from processing endless friend requests, using interaction tools, joining every group Facebook has to offer, and the ever-so-basic posting on someone’s wall. The random compilation of these little acts of networking will benefit your end result: increased awareness of the services you want to sell.

To share or not to share: SHARE. It’s all about updating the world on what your business is up to: new events, conferences, employees etc. Collectively, by sharing your stream, you let other people feel like they’re apart of the business already. It will be that much easier to convert them into leads; they are already aware of who you are and what business you’re in.

Facebook lets you customize your page which is similar to having your own website allowing you to track where your views are coming from, how many people view them, and to keep in touch with your current “fans,” better known as your potential leads. For example, updating your page with photographs of the company, the employees, and also current articles on how the company is performing offers a more information to your “fans.” In this way, you attract more people to the site, who can soon be transformed into sales leads and ultimately clients.

Additionally, there’s the question of how to proceed when you have all your fans and friends updated with your sites and pages. The next step in the process is to ask for the required information from them for your business. For example, in the Conferencing industry, you would ask for the vendor used, how many calls are made monthly with an estimate of minutes used. With the information from the questions asked, you can then determine if they are the right profile you are looking for. It varies for each company; however, in the Conferencing world, this is the protocol for sales leads.

In the end, with your increased number of connections, you will also have an increased number of leads. There’s nothing better than getting your business out there and in turn generating more people to your attention to eventually and definitely sell. Without letting up, there is one strategic tool that offers everything and beyond your average: Facebook. This is my strategy. What’s yours?
