Copper Conferencing has its Head in the Clouds

Even with summer coming to an end, Copper Conferencing has managed to keep its head in the clouds. Cliche statement I know, but transitioning to cloud hosting has not only been exciting but also stress relieving.

Our decision to transition to cloud hosting came on the heels of quick site growth and inflexible traditional hosting packages. Our last host had us set on a fixed virtual server that would require rebuilding and migration just to increase disk space. So at the rate of our growth we are looking at 2-3 midnight migrations a year. Yikes! Plus if for any reason we surpassed our disk space the site would crash, taking down web and db services. Inflexible might be an understatement.

After quite a bit of research we chose the RackSpace Cloud as our hosting provider. We based this decision on their reliability, competitive pricing plans, easy control panel and progressive development. I’ve also enjoyed their active approach to support and community development via Twitter (@rackcloud) and their video blogs.

As businesses begin to enrich their websites and web portfolios and traffic begin to expand it is import to focus on and ensure scalability from day one and not day zero when the sky is falling. The new cloud services (SalesForce, Gmail, Amazon E3, Cloud Sites, etc) give us the ability to use a strong and flexible architecture that grows as we grow, leaving us the time to focus on what we do best business, conferencing, web and the occasional pool party.
