CEO Blog: Cat and Mouse
Copper Conferencing has a lot of young people working for us and I think they do and say the most interesting things. One of my favorite activities is to go to lunch with a group of them, just be quiet and listen to the banter. That way, I stay current on important movies like The Hangover, the latest type of Jello shot, and any new Wii games. One of my favorite conversations yesterday was about a cat and a mouse.
Some of our employees are part time and are working their way through college. One psychology student wanted to study if a domesticated cat still had the instinct to hunt and kill. She decided to go to the pet store, buy a mouse and bring it back to her apartment. She put it in her bathroom, blocked the door to the hall and brought in Lego the cat.
The cat was elated! It spends a lot of quality time alone and it finally had a friend to hang out with or at least a toy to occupy its time. Lego tried its hardest to get acquainted and batted at the mouse. Of course, the mouse freaked out, ran around and wouldn’t have anything to do with Lego. (Where are Tom and Jerry when you need them?)
The lesson is that this domesticated cat knows it has plenty of food and just wants a friend. Next time, maybe a kitty to play with would be better. The mouse is gone and all is right with the world. I think I’ll go eat lunch with the team today and see what life-altering schemes and experiments are on the horizon. Copper is such a fun place to hang out these days!
