Last week, I flew to Denver then to Houston and then to Atlanta. Because I run a conferencing company, I know the value of using audio and web conferencing to minimize the need for these types of trips. But sometimes, you have to go pay a personal visit. During the summertime, you pay a high financial as well as a personal price to get on an airplane.

History shows us that most empires become unwieldy, difficult to manage, expensive to maintain, hard to control and most of them crumble. Recently, my wife, dog and I back packed to a beautiful mountain bowl encircled with high peaks at around 12,000 feet in the Colorado mountains. Our goal was to fly fish and catch enough food for dinner around the camp fire. But the mountains are an unpredictable companion and often bring adverse weather in the blink of an eye.
